Important Information About Cleaning X-ray Shielding

Tips for Cleaning

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Although hand hygiene is important to minimize the impact of this transfer, cleaning and disinfecting environmental surfaces as appropriate is fundamental in reducing their potential contribution to the incidence of healthcare-associated infections."

Most cleaning compounds used in medical facilities are suitable for cleaning our Xray Curtain Products. We normally recommend peroxide and sodium hypochlorite based sanitizers.

The chart below, created by The Center for Food Security & Public Health at Iowa State University, shows the susceptibility of microorganisms to chemical disinfectants.

Risks in Healthcare Setting

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) or Nosocomial infections can be reduced by frequent cleaning of all surfaces in healthcare settings.

According to National Institutes of Health (NCBI), “Annually, approximately 2 million patients suffer with healthcare-associated infections HAIs in the USA, and nearly 90,000 are estimated to die.”

These HAIs include surgical-site infections (SSIs), central-line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).

  • Very informative. It was interesting to learn that Tungsten vinyl is a good replacement for lead for X-ray protection. Very small typo I noticed and wanted to share with you: Where you refer to the chart, it actually appears above the statement “This chart below, created by The Center for Food Security & Public Health at Iowa State University, shows the susceptibility of microorganisms to chemical disinfectants.” Other than that, I liked the chart and the information shared. Visually appealing.
