Lead-Lined Curtains for Doors Openings & Window Coverings

Regular price $ 1,340.00

Shielding of doorways, windows and office pass-throughs in new imaging rooms can be simplified by using lead-lined curtains.  This option provides a simple alternative to installation of lead-lined doors or leaded glass windows.

What size Radiation Curtain Shield do I need?

For this installation, there are two main decisions to make.  The length of the Curtain Track and the size of the Curtain.

For a typical pass-through, a minimum ADA width will be 36”.  For a 36” wide opening, a 48” curtain should be selected to insure overlap on each side.  For wider openings, just add corresponding width to the curtain.

The most common curtain length is 7 ft.  This will cover a standard door height of 80”, and is also suitable for a pass-though since any scatter radiation above 7 ft would not be expected to affect a person.

The curtain track will either be mounted above the door frame or from the ceiling.  Normally the track will extend 1-2 ft on one side of the opening so the curtain can be pulled completely out of the way when not in use.  A 6 ft long track will be more than adequate for most situations.

Windows are shielded in the same way as doors.  Curtain tracks are mounted on the wall above the windows.

Standard kits for xray shielding over doors and windows.

Wall-Mount Curtains Kit:  This kit includes a Track, Heavy Duty Wall Brackets, Track End Stops, and wheeled carriers with hooks for the Curtains.

Ceiling Mount Curtain Kit:  This kit includes a Track, Ceiling Mount Brackets, Track End Stops, and wheeled carriers with hooks for the Curtains.

These tracks and curtains shields, or drapes, can be installed in under two hours, and are not much more difficult than installing window curtains or a wall mount TV.

Our Curtain Tracks are 16-gauge high strength steel, suitable for supporting the heaviest curtains.  If a 4-foot wide curtain is ordered, a 6-foot section of track will be supplied. If a 6-foot wide curtain is ordered, an 8-foot section of track will be supplied.  Custom track shapes with curves are also available.

What level of radiation shielding do I need?

The level of shielding depends on many factors.  The lowest level of shielding is required in imaging applications where the subject absorbs most of the primary beam, such as in intraoral dental or mammography.  In fact, these installations often do not even require lead-lined walls since appropriate thickness of gypsum wallboard will attenuate scatter radiation.  A xray curtain with 0.25mm Pb equivalent is typically sufficient in these applications.

Scatter from panoramic dental xray systems and traditional medical xrays, typically requires a minimum of 0.5mm Pb to protect against secondary radiation.  However, often the requirement is much higher, and thus we offer curtains in in protection levels of almost any thickness.  A qualified expert should always be consulted for room design.  The window and door coverings will typically match the lead lining specified for the walls.  Thus we offer lead-lined curtain assemblies of 0.75mm Pb or 1.0mm Pb where a 1/32” lead lining is needed and 1.5mm Pb where a 1/16” lead lining is needed.
