Historically xray scanners used for checkpoint, baggage scanning and cargo x-ray systems used flexible lead rubber of vinyl xray curtains.  Today many newer systems now employ lead-free curtains In these curtains, the lead has been replaced with other 'safe' metals to block the xrays. Bismuth, Antimony, Tin and Tungsten are common lead alternatives. 

Many types of materials are available to meet specific processing needs.  Our lead-free curtains are available in Lead Equivalent protection levels ranging from 0.25mmPb to 1.0mmPb.  We offer standard and strengthened low friction skin which has excellent wear life.

Material Options

Long-life Xyflex - The best lead-free curtain for use in the security sector.  Used on a wide variety of checkpoint, cargo and baggage scanner systems.  Available in Lead Equivalent protection levels ranging from 0.25mmPb to 1.0mmPb. used in inspection of cased food products or abrasive packaging where a durable, lower friction surface is necessary.  The Xyflex curtains are proven to be the longest life x-ray curtains on the market.

Strengthened Lead Rubber - Historically this strengthened lead rubber has been the most widely used material on Security Xray Systems, finding primary use on Smiths HiScan systems. If you require an exact replacement, we stock strengthened leaded rubber in 88mm (3.5 in) strips at the 0.35mm Lead Equivalent. Optional materials include 0.25mmPb, 0.5mmPb and 0.6mmPb with minimum order.

Lead Vinyl - Skinned lead vinyl has seen broad use over the years both as a OEM material as well and a low cost replacement materials,  Available in lead equivalents ranging from 0.25mmPb to 1.0mmPb.
